From April 9 to April 14, 2018, Laurel had the immense pleasure of spending a week full of Art, Networking, and Friendship in Washington, D.C.  While in D.C., she attended masterclasses, panels, and workshops with working Equity professionals in the D.C area.

Some of these artists included Jeff Whiting, Donna Migliaccio ,  Bobby Smith , Tracy Lynn Olivera , Felicia Curry, Kelly Crandall D'Amboise, and many others, as well as getting to experience this amazing week with 9 other college artists and peers in the Musical Theatre Membership.

At the end of the week, all of the members of the Musical Theatre Membership got to perform on the Kennedy Center Terrace Theatre stage in  a Showcase that also doubled as an audition for the Open Jar Institute.  In this showcase, Laurel performed "Raven" from Brooklyn the Musical - a piece sung by the character Paradice, for which Laurel received her 2017 award of Outstanding Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical Nation Wide.

She couldn't have imagined working with such talented, genuine, and collaborative artists and ranks this week as her favorite theatre experience by far.  The connections she made here remain strong and she hopes to work with each of the peers she met this week someday soon.

Laurel was invited to attend the KCACTF national festival in 2018 due to her 2017 award, which she received for her performance as Paradice in Brooklyn the Musical.  The show was also nominated for Distinguished Director of a Musical, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Ensemble of a Play or Musical, and, Distinguished Choreography.  Caleb Summers, who portrayed Streetsinger in the production also received the National award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Musical Nation Wide.

Below are some photos of the Production and the company of Brooklyn and their experience at KCACTF Region 6 Festival, 2017 - where the production won Region 6 Director's Choice.  There, the company met Michael C. Di Bianco of Broadway Cares, a professional and personal relationship that remains strong to this day.
